Beginning the week of February 22nd

In this course you will learn how to keep a moment-to-moment awareness of thoughts, emotions and bodily sensations, as a way to improve your overall quality of life. 

Mindfulness practice has been shown to help in stress reduction, emotion regulation, chronic pain management, improved attention and focus, as well as a number of other benefits. 

Through meditations practices, exercises, and learning about the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path to Wellness and the Five Mindfulness Trainings, you will develop tools necessary to continue the practice of mindfulness after the course ends. 

Who is this course for?

  • Anyone seeking establish a personal mindfulness practice
  • Those looking to reduce stress, manage chronic illness or gain greater insight into your own life
  • Individuals considering to take the Five Precepts as a lay practitioner with Lotus Heart Zen
  • Anyone who, through daily life, is dealing with difficult situations and are looking for ways to counteract burnout, develop better self-care and cultivate inner resilience. 

The 8-week course will cover:

  • How to develop awareness through body scan meditations.
  • Basic Yoga poses (floor and/or chair yoga) for preparing the body for meditation.
  • Basic mindfulness meditation techniques.
  • Techniques for meeting and navigating difficult thoughts, emotions and sensations.
  • How to develop a daily practice.
  • Practices that cultivate positive states of mind such as Compassion, Attention and Gratitude.
  • The ethical and moral foundations of the Five Mindfulness Trainings and how the practice of the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path to Wellness can reduce suffering.

Course Information

Course work begins the week of Feb. 22nd and ends the week of April 26th, 2015 (with a break mid-way)

  • Beginning the week of February 22nd, attend one of the weekly Meditation Classes  (either Mon or Fri at 6:30pm) to receive instruction on each week’s topic and weekly assignments (while in-person instruction is preferred, distance/absent learning options are available--contact Rev. Do'an Prajna for more information)
  • Complete weekly homework assignments, exercises and keep a practice log
  • Receive feedback on assignments and instruction on establishing a daily practice of mindfulness
  • Suggested donation: $100* (that’s only $12.50 a week!)

*Donations go toward supplies and supporting the livelihood of the teacher. If you cannot donate the suggested amount, please consider an amount comfortable to you, or contact Rev. Do’an Prajna to discuss other options. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
