About the Meditation & Mindfulness Group
This meditation and mindfulness group explores the basics of mindful living, while learning how to cultivate a regular practice of meditation. The teachers may come from a Zen Buddhist background, but the instruction focuses primarily on a secular-based practice of meditation and mindfulness. We will, however, explore at times some Buddhist teachings from which the meditation and mindfulness practice arose, as well as forms of practice from other traditions.

What will I learn in the Meditation & Mindfulness group?
With regular attendance you will learn how to be more attentive in your life; cultivate compassion and gratitude toward yourself and others; and perceive the world just as it is, without judgements and pre-conditions. You will learn the basic biology behind why you think and feel the way you do--and how to change it. Further you will learn how to respond--and not react--to unpleasant situations and emotions that arise in your life. You will learn how to establish a regular meditation and mindfulness practice that will help you in your life for decades to come.
Some of the topics covered include:
|
|
Meditation |
The Lotus Heart Zen Meditation Group primarily practices Zen meditation, but intermittently include a variety of types of meditation and mind-training techniques. In addition to learning about the practice of meditation, there are opportunities to ask questions about your practice.
|
Mindfulness |
Mindfulness is a practice of maintaining moment-to-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings and sensations. Mindfulness is also acceptance of what is happening without judgements and without believing that what we are experiencing is right or wrong in any given moment.
When practicing mindfulness, we strengthen our minds so that we can remain focused on what is taking place in the present moment, rather than ruminating on the past or speculating on the future. |
