Śrāmaṇerī - Novitiate Wanpung Devadipa (Miyo Wratten) has  spent time off and on throughout most of her adult life looking for a place to learn about Buddhist practice.  She began her studies through online resources and texts she found in the library at the university she attended.
In the early 2000s, Miyo discovered an online group that was also interested in discussing Buddhism, but from a secular perspective. After some time spent learning with them and participating in their online community, Miyo joined the consulting board of the Secular Buddhists Association. To this group of teachers, she feels great gratitude as they helped her with her first understanding of Buddhism and meditation practice.

After drifting away from the Secular Buddhism for a few years, Miyo still longed to have a Buddhist practice. She found Lotus Heart Zen through Ven. MyoHye Do’an’s Wednesday night meditation group. She began attending services in 2017 a few months later, then took refuge in the three jewels only a few months after that. In addition to being under Ven. MyoHye's guidance, Miyo has taken several courses through Buddha Dharma University. She also serves as Communications Coordinator for Lotus Heart Zen.
She currently lives in North Brookfield, NY and is a wife, a mother to two teenagers and to two dogs, is a bagpiper, and a public school teacher.
