Mission of Lotus Heart Zen

  • To cultivate Compassion, Attention and Gratitude, in one's self, the community and the wider world.
  • To be a sanctuary of the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma and Sangha) in order to cultivate Compassion, Attention and Gratitude within its members.
  • To provide teachings and practice to help individuals wake up to their true nature, to the present moment and to live mindfully.
  • To provide spiritual services and instruction for its members, their families and the community.

Our Aspirations

Our Dedication is alignment with the Four Great Vows of the Bodhisattva:
  • Sentient beings are numberless; we vow to save them all
  • Delusions are endless; we vow to cut through them all
  • The teachings are infinite; we vow to learn them all
  • The Buddha Way is inconceivable; we vow to realize it

Our Beliefs

We believe in the mystery that is our life. The Buddhadharma teaches us that our lives function within questions and not inside of ideas, constructs, metaphors or philosophies. Following our path which leads from some of the greatest modern teachers of Zen Buddhism in the West -- which include Seung Sahn Dae Jong Sa, Hòa Thượng Dr. Thich Thien-An, Hòa Thượng Thich Man Giac, Hòa Thượng Dr. Suhita Dharma, Hòa Thượng Thich An Giao and Ven. Dr. Wonji Dharma -- we engage our lives in this moment, without dependence upon the past, the present, or the future. We engage our lives with the constant unfolding of each and every moment, while radiating the true love and compassion of the Buddha Way.

Our Policy of Non-Discrimination

  • We embrace and affirm that all persons are of inherent equal worth, therefore every human being is invited to participate fully in any and all of our programs.
  • We accept all who genuinely embrace the Buddhadharma as their direction and choose to manifest its aspirations in their daily lives.
  • There are no other qualifications or restrictions from engaging the practice of the Buddhadharma, nor of transmitting it or teaching it.
  • We welcome into practice and fellowship, all people, regardless of age, economic reality, education, ethnicity, faith history, family structure, gender identity, nationality, physical and mental ability, race, sexual orientation, and life experience.
